Almost every competitive gamer knows of both CAL and CEVO. Over the last few years, and great debate has emerged; Which is better, CAL or CEVO? Both are outstanding leagues, that organize seasons for multiple games all year long. My feeling on the situation is; neither league is necessarily better than the other, each of them are targeting a different group of gamers.
CAL, for some time was the temple of competitive gaming, with no entry fee, a large library of games, and a league structure as opposed to a ladder, its easy to see why. All of these things combined make it the perfect league to join if you are just getting into competitive gaming and you solely want to play for fun and don’t care about winning prizes and cash.
CEVO has done a great job expanding their reach, and offering a well organized, competitive atmosphere. However you must pay an entry fee to compete in CEVO’s leagues and some of their tournaments. Therefore, CEVO appeals to players who have a passion, and drive to excel in competitive gaming. The underlying reason players shell out cash to compete in a league is quite simple; they believe the small entry fee will be rewarded with a large cash prize. Experienced players enjoy CEVO because of the highly competitive nature of the league. If a team decides to pay the entry fees and compete in CEVO, chances are, they feel confident they will do well in the league. Therefore a large percentage of teams who compete in CEVO will be seasoned veterans who have a vast understanding of the game.
Both leagues are well organized and well respected. However, if you are new to completive gaming and are trying to decide which league to play in, you should compete in CAL and start CEVO when you gain more experience. If you have played in competitive gaming for a while, and feel like you know what you’re doing and don’t mind paying the small fee that CEVO charges, give it a shot.

Honestly I think you miss one major point, my team pays CEVO for 1 reason only. We don;t have to play 3 or 4 matches at seasons start against bad teams or dead or dying teams. CEVO at least on the CoD side is pretty good at knocking out teams that are dead, so those first 3 weeks we don;t spend hours practicing for a match that is completely one sided or does not even happen. CAL is still great and is my league preference because of the qaulity of leadership and admins they have.
